| No. We can help them where they are in their own country. We do not need to bring them into Canada to help them. Would it be more expensive to "ship" millions or even billions of people over here with all there stuff or one person from Canada for every community with supplies. Definetly the people from Canada. Because who will pay for the refugees boat or airplane ticket? Not the refugees. Canada's going to have to pay for that. When the refugees get here, before they can get a job they need to learn English and go to college. When they go to college the might be trained to become a docter. Why couldn't Canadieans be the docters? The refugees being docters and mechanics and engineers cause unemployment for many Canadians. The refugees would not be able to pay for college so we lose money there also. The 'for immigration' argues that the refugees when they get jobs will pay taxes and pay off the debt, the more refugees the more the debt gets payed off. But the debt is a hopeless case. Where are we going to get billions of dollars to pay off the debt? Nowhere. Another reason not let culturally diversed people into Canada is because some of them culture may be against the law in our culture. So the 'for immigration' say ban the stuff. Put a law against it. So if we do that they might listen but if they dont we'll put them in jail and we get taxed more to keep them in there. That concludes my essay on why culturally diversed people should not be allowed to immigrate to Canada. By Karissa Stel Grade 7, 1995 (spelling and grammar has not been changed) |

| Here's what's going on--
The landlord decided that he really wanted Laura, Adrienne and I as his tenants. Unfortunately, with only Laura and I being there for the summer months, we couldn't afford the rent. Incredible as the rent was for a duplex in Edina, MN, it was out of our budget. But, Mr. Landlord and his wife talked it over after I left his place last Wednesday and he called me up the next morning at work.
Proposition
He'll charge us $200 less a month during the summer months (when it's just Laura and me) if we mow the grass. When Adrienne comes in September, he'll raise the rent $100 and we just have to keep mowing the lawn and doing snow removal.
And that's the deal. Wow. We took it. Wednesday I bring the $1000 security deposit over and June 1st Laura and I move in.
Woot woot!
I learned how to play racquetball this weekend because a certain awesome friend of mine taught me. |
